Groklaw shutting down

Many of you will know Groklaw, if only back from the days of their role in the epic battle against SCO and their litigation against Linux. Groklaw was also the biggest (in terms of users) Geeklog site out there.

"Was", unfortunately, because PJ has decided that, effective immediately, the site will no longer be operating.

The owner of Lavabit tells us that he's stopped using email and if we knew what he knew, we'd stop too.

There is no way to do Groklaw without email. Therein lies the conundrum.
(...)
So this is the last Groklaw article. I won't turn on comments. Thank you for all you've done. I will never forget you and our work together. I hope you'll remember me too.

Thanks, PJ and the Groklaw community for all you have done for Open Source in general and Geeklog in particular. We will sure remember you all!

For the rest of us, maybe it's time we think about the recent events and disclosures and what can be done about them, as they seem to start to be doing more harm than good.

Announcements

The third release candidate of Geeklog version 2.0.0 is now available for download. For the full list of bug fixes found in Geeklog 2.0.0rc3 please read the included change log found in the docs directory of the download.

We expect that this release candidate will be the last one before the final Geeklog 2.0.0 release. If you have a chance please test this release on a non-production site. If you find any bugs, you can add them to the Geeklog Bugtracker. If all goes smoothly we hope the final version of Geeklog 2.0.0 to be released by the end of March.

As always we welcome new and updated translations. If you speak a language other than English and you would like to help out the Geeklog community, translations are a great place to start.

Geeklog 1.8.2 is now available for download.

This is a maintenance release that fixes some bugs in Geeklog 1.8.1, most notably some incompatibilities with MySQL 5.5 and the Twitter OAuth login as well as a few minor issues.

There were no changes in the database, the themes, or the language files, so this should be a straightforward upgrade from any previous 1.8.x release.
