Over the past 40 to 50 days, a remarkable amount of development has taken place around Geeklog.

What started as an effort to modernize a few plugins and improve compatibility with Geeklog 2.2.2 gradually became something much broader: updating important parts of the ecosystem, improving development practices, reviving major plugins and exploring new ways for Geeklog components to work together.

Borrowing the spirit — but not the official program — of Google Summer of Code, we could call this period our own:

Geeklog Summer of Code 2026.

This article is a snapshot of what has happened, what is already usable, what is currently under development, and why this may be a good time for developers and long-time Geeklog users to take another look at the project.

A new theme is now available for the Geeklog community: Eclipse 1.0.0.

Eclipse is a modern, responsive and customizable theme designed to improve both the public-facing experience of a Geeklog website and the daily work of administrators, editors and moderators.

This first stable release supports Geeklog 2.1.1 through 2.2.2 and PHP 5.6 through PHP 8.1, making it suitable for existing Geeklog installations as well as more recent environments.

The project is available on GitHub and can be installed as a standard Geeklog theme.

The first public testing release of Eclipse, a modern and customizable theme for the Geeklog CMS, is now available on GitHub.

Eclipse has been developed to modernize both the public-facing website and the content management experience while preserving compatibility with Geeklog’s existing architecture.

The current release, Eclipse 1.0.0-rc53, is a release candidate intended for testing, staging environments and community feedback. It should not yet be considered the final stable version.
