How often do RSS blocks get updated?

Yes (in lib-common.php - search for the first occurence of 3600).

At least a few years ago, pulling a feed only every 60 minutes was the proper thing to do. Some sites (e.g. Slashdot) even blocked you when you pulled too often.

Not sure how much of a problem that is these days. Plus Geeklog now uses conditional requests, so if the server on the other side plays along, it would only request the feed again when it really changed.

In other words: If you have some convincing evidence that it would be useful to make that configurable, please open a feature request.

It's mentioned in http://wiki.geeklog.net/index.php/Limit_Portal_Block_Entry - Dirk, you may want to add that link to Importing feeds in Content syndication.

BTW, I wonder what's the setting for other CMS (is there a comparison anywhere?). I know at least one large blog community (site, not software) where the pull is done every 5 minutes or so (as closest to real time feeds as it gets). But I don't know how it is in other places.
