Image Filenames or alt text

I'm using geeklog 1.3.11sr1 right now and I want to know how what I need to change to allow the image filename to not be turned into a random string of characters.
Google images can be a great source of traffic and if the above isn't possible, maybe there would be a way to change the alt text of the graphics into the filename of the uploaded image?
