Journal errors: adding a new entry and editing existing journal

Users can't add new entries to their journals on my geeklog-1.3.9 install and v012 of journal.
The error is - No journal was passed to function journalentryeditor.
The error log shows this:
Sun May 16 17:30:10 2004 - SELECT * FROM mnu_index WHERE ((perm_anon >= 3) OR (perm_members >= 2) OR ((group_id = 2) AND (perm_group >= 2)) OR ((group_id = 13)
AND (perm_group >= 2)) OR ((owner_id = 4) AND (perm_owner >= 2))) AND (lang = 'english') ORDER BY m_pos ASC
Sun May 16 17:24:00 2004 - nrows = 1 language = english
Also, when I try to edit a journal I get this SQL error:
Sun May 16 17:24:03 2004 - 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1. SQL in question: SELECT *,jrn_date as unixdate FROM gl_journal WHERE jrn_id =
