Need a simple upload script.

Tried filemgmt and it just didn't work for me like I wanted. Is there a simple upload script where users can upload their mp3's or images to an admin specified folder. I should just be able to chmod the folder so they can't execute the file to guard against intrusions? Maybe use a static page with a javascript upload script? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Anyone want to see my html created download page visit my site. It looks pretty good because I don't care about the automated counters and etc that come with file mgmt. I saw on google there was a files plugin but haven't been able to find it unless it's the same filemgmt plugin.

Didn't work. Lib common path is correct, upload directory is correct. CHMOD'd everything to the hilt wit 777 and still comes up with a 404 error. Any help?

I'm also a little stuck with this problem. I use the file management plugin, but unfortunatly its limited to 2 meg. I've tried to upload a 0kb file with the uploader then change it for the original file via ftp, but when users are downloading, the file is corrupt, or it only downloads a fraction of it. The file I tried was a 70 meg mp3 (DJ mixtape).
Has anyone come across this problem and been able to solve it, or is there another way to use the file managment plugin with files of this size?
I'd prefer if people using the download section were logged in members.
Maybe theres a way of doing it with a static page adding the login code to the top? or a way to add url's to the file management plugin? then it could be done easily with ftp.

The filemgmt plugin is NOT! limited to a 2Meg download. That is your PHP install default. There must be 100 posts on this question and answered 100 times.

Blaine, I know, I've read them all it seems. I'm on a virtual Host, so I cant change the timeout on the uploads for php... I should have said 'mine personally' is limited to 2 meg uploads. I do appologise for any misunderstanding.

Im still however looking for a fix to my problem. Can anyone direct me to something that will help? it would be greatly appreciated

When your hosting service has limited uploads to 2M, then that applies to all PHP scripts (and they probably have similar restrictions in place for other languages), so you're basically out of luck.

Uploading the file through ftp should work, though, provided that you upload the file in binary mode And it's probably a good idea to adjust the file size in the File Management plugin manually afterwards (the plugin doesn't use the value, AFAIK, but it would give your users an idea about how big the download really is).

bye, Dirk

Thanks for the help Dirk, your time is always appreciated Smile

DJDevon3. Sorry for the hijack of your post, but I think we're bothing trying to accomplish the same thing here? - giving users the ability to upload very large files to a host for others to download.

yeah, and i had the same issues everyone else did with the file mgmt plugin. the columns and rows were a hassle to deal with too. just didn't like the layout, navigation, and options file mgmt offered. i'll opt for my own html created download section and hopefully use this simple file script. if this doesn't work i'll be looking to integrate a java script into a static page. still need help on the simple upload script though.

I think Dirk provided some important information DJDevon,

Because you are virutally hosted and don't have control over your server configuration, you have a far bigger problem than writing a script. Essentially, you are most likely going to have to set up some sort of FTP upload, because your HTTP options are heavily limited by your server. whether you use javascript, php, asp, vbscript, etc... is more than likely going to be irrelevant. The issue is your transfer protocol, which is probably going to have to be something beside http. (FTP is probably your only other choice.)

Having said that, writing a ftp upload script is probably not going to be a 'simple script' I'm not aware of any javascript functionality that allows you to transfer files to a server. Php and perl are both server side scripting, which means that they cannot manipulate a file until it is already on the server, so they are useless for trying to ftp something onto your server.

You may be stuck either using a java ftp client, or requiring users to log on using an ftp client of their own and uploading a file. The first thing I would do though would be to contact your hosting service and see if they would be willing to change the server configuration.
