Windows, Word & HTML entities

Here's a problem that seems to happen when submitting stories on windows 98. I have an article in MS Word which I copy and paste into the Geeklog story editor. After I save, the curly quotes and em dashes show up as HTML entities when I view the article. (‘) This only happens on Windows, and not when using my Mac. Any ideas???
