automatic way to create links in stories?

I'm looking for a way to convert any test string that starts with www. or http:// to an active link within a story without asking anyone to learn how to write the tags. Is there a hack out there or a plug-in? Anyone?

Hi. I think you definitely need to install htmlarea editor. see e.g. here how it works.
It's available in the Downloads section.
