Is it possible that the files were corrupted, or opened with the wrong program to edit them?

Warning: fopen(/home/XXXXXXX/geeklog/logs/error.log): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/lXXXXXXX/www/lib-common.php on line 1558
An SQL error has occured. Please see error.log for details.

Check the file and directory permissions (as by the installation instructions, step 3).

bye, Dirk

It is not a new installation but I did open the files - edit and then resave them

Well, I don't know what you used to edit the files but it's quite possible that that changed their file permissions. So check them (see above ...).

bye, Dirk

Testing logs directory /home/mysite/geeklog/logs/ ...

Running check.php yields

Could not open error.log and access.log for writing.
Please check that you have set the logs directory and the files error.log and access.log in that directory to chmod 775.
Current permissions for logs: 775
Current permissions for error.log: 775
Current permissions for access.log: 775

... and a bit further down, it should say
If the above instructions tell you to chmod files and/or directories to 775 but they already are at 775, try chmod 777 instead.

bye, Dirk

Is it possible for our ISP to make it so we cannot record to those files?

Their FAQ's read Because of a possible security issue we have temporarily removed access to the live logs and changed the way we allow live log access

I have no idea what they may refer to by "live logs" - you'd have to ask them.

Did you try chmod 777 (actually, 666 would be enough) for the logfiles?

bye, Dirk

Look like it.

Unfortunately we cannot "speak" with support form our ISP, only communicate via help desk entries - so now I wait for them to reply.
