Hello,
I need to add a new field, author, in the advanced submit stories editor. We can not use the "owner of article" function because we need to submit stories for *other* writers too. Please advice.

You could try to 'abuse' the topics for that, if you do not need the topics anyway. Otherwise it is not possible without changing the core files, which I do not recommend.

You would need to create a new variable in the table gl_stories.
Modify the story.php in /admin to include the variable.
Then modify lib-story to display the new variable.
