story and topics error

I don't know why, but somehow, the stories I create don't show up in the topics or the "submissions" section. The only place they DO show up is in the "admin's only" section under 'stories'.
When I click on the topic I had put the story under, it says there are no stories for that topic. can someone please help?

Things to check:
- the date - if that date is in the future, the story will not show up until then
- draft flag set?
- permissions (both story and topic permissions) - although they should always be visible for the Admin user
