I currently maintain a club website (that I inherited) which would really benefit from being put into a CMS. I've used Geeklog for several sites, and I really like the application, but I'm wondering if I can duplicate some functionality of the existing site...
I have a members page that is password protected via .htaccess (Apache/Linux) on a "members" directory. Within that directory, I have several pdf files, which inherit that password protection. The members page has links to the pdf files to download. Even if you went straight to the url for those files, you'd still have to enter the password first.
Question is... can I do something like this in Geeklog? I have looked at the file management plugin as a possiblity (thinking I could put links in a static page to individual files... not actually making the file management pages visible to anyone). But it looks like while the file location would be hidden by the plugin, technically someone could still go straight to the files themselves without ever entering a password if they knew the location. I was hoping that maybe the files would be stored outside the public_html directory, but when I installed the plugin on my home computer, I noticed in the configuration that there is a web address to where the files are stored...
Is there a way to do what I'm wanting to do? Maybe I've missed something really obvious. I really like the idea of the Geeklog-style user management for this site, and the only thing that's holding me back is the ability to make pdf downloads available to members only.
