gallery random photo vs new gallery last updated blocks?

I have a site with GL 1.3.11 up, I now have working well (but not yet "publically" linked from the home page) Gallery.
I want either Gallery Random Photo or Gallery Last Updated to display 3 images on the right-block of the home page.
Are these both compatible with GL 1.3.11?
Can anyone tell me about the difficulty of these to install & get working? Especially, is one of these a problem where the other typically goes well?
