I'm interested in allowing a user to post numerous pics in their profile. Has anyone done this? Doesn't look like it is a feature of the core product. Perhaps some kind of integration with gallery?

Plugins can extend the user profile, so that would be the way to go.
There's a bug in Geeklog 1.3.9sr2 and older versions, though, which mistakes any uploaded files as the (default) user photo, so you'd need Geeklog 1.3.10 to actually make this work.
Or, as you mentioned, you could implement something that links to pictures in Gallery, so that the upload bug would not come into play.
