I was told that Google does not pick up links in the GL links system?

When I asked to exchange links with another website I was told that Google does not pick up links in the GL links system?.
Is that true?

Probably. This has actually been discussed before ...

If you check the link in your links section, you'll notice that the URLs there are not those of the linked site but that they are redirected through portal.php, so that Geeklog can count how often a link has been clicked on.

So if the goal of the link exchange is to improve the other site's rating in Google, then that won't help them.
