I downloaded the latest geeklog, and have read through the installation docs, but i still have a few questions.
I have a directory ~/public_html , and when i untar geeklog, there is a public_html in there.. so the path to the index.php would be...
http://localhost/~aphex/geeklog-1.3.9sr1/public_html/index.php
Am i able to change that without messing up the website... so that it is:
http://localhost/~aphex/index.php
or something shorter like that?

yes, you can easily do that without messin up the whole website.
It works well, a lot of people did it before you.
