cant change settings on Forums

My forums are working great, except I cant change the settings. It tells me that the settings have been changed, but I go back to the site and nothing has changed. Anyone have any suggestions on trouble shooting this problem? Thanks.

Two thoughts:
  1. you may have changed something that can be overriden in your user settings for the forum
  2. your browser may fool you - Mozilla, for example, can save the contents of a form and overwrite the actual form contents with what it has stored
