How to theme the core from scratch

I've redone the following files from scratch...

header.thtml
footer.thtml
blockheader.thtml
blockfooter.thtml
storybody.thtml
storybodytext.thtml
featuredstorybody.thtml
featuredstorybodytext.thtml
style.css

Although I get the homepage to show up perfectly, for some crazy reason I just cannot figure out, how to keep it perfect through out browsing

What I mean is, the homepage shows up without problems yet, browsing to another page destroys the layout. e.g. clicking on any User Function link OR a story link will make my left block expand 100% while putting the head of my story above my header and the body of the story below the left block...

It sounds odd and I just cannot pinpoint exactly how Geeklog goes about smashing these pages together. I figured it out for the homepage but I am seriously getting thrown off here... I've checked the source and have double checked the geeklog theming file for tips, hints, etc to no avail...

Anyone have any ideas?

I am trying to create a valid page which I can also use as a template for future projects. Any help is appreciated!

Hmm, what about leftblocks.thtml and rightblocks.thtml?

If you go to "some other page", you'll usually don't have any right blocks, so you may be missing some opening or closing table tags then ...

bye, Dirk

Copy/paste the HTML sourcecode into Dreamweaver, which will show the errors highlighted.

I do belive that it is the open and close tags ,that are root of the problem .I had the same problem until i went through all the files in the layout /theme
when the left or right block is called it continues from the header and then uses the close tags in the footer .
or
headder then left block then stories then footer
so on and so on
It can be a mess trying to find out
i still have 1 that is messed up in my filemgmt hack
so be pachent , it will take some time
i allso find that dev.php works well for finding errors
