Request: Have the poll remember which members have voted

If the poll could remember which of the site members have voted for that particular poll (through a database table), then site owners would not have to worry about poll-related cookies (except for anonymous surfers). Also, this would create more power to plugin writers, as we could theoretically see who has voted in what polls and which option they chose.

... not to mention that it would be a violation of privacy. It could even be against the law in some countries. So don\'t expect this to be implemented in Geeklog. bye, Dirk

This would definitely not be against the law. People are coming to my website to vote on a poll that lives on my harddrive. There is no law saying that internet polls must be private and anonymity must be retained. There could even be a disclaimer on the site saying that all poll answers are logged, if the admin chooses to log them. You don\'t even have to store what their answers were, just in what polls they voted. That would get rid of the whole log-related cookies hassle.

Which country are we talking about?

There is a German law, for example, that states that you must not store personalized information other than what\'s necessary for operating your service (as, for example, a website). At least not, unless you get the explicit permission from the user.

You did say something else in your original post. Of course, IANAL and may be misinterpreting things here but with fines starting at 25000 Euro (that\'s roughly the same in US dollars), I\'m not going to take any risks, thank you very much ... bye, Dirk
