Well, since I couldn't get anyone on here to help install the new version of GL to my group's web site, I tried to do it myself and followed the instructions, but that didn't help and it got toasted! I get the following errors when I got to:
http://www.inceptionos.org/
Warning: fopen("/home/sites/site14/web/geeklog-1.3.7sr1/logs/error.log","a") - Permission denied in /home/sites/site14/web/lib-common.php on line 821
Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /home/sites/site14/web/lib-common.php on line 8241146: Table 'inceptionos-geeklog.gl_staticpage' doesn't exist
So, what do I do, how do I fix it?!?!

The permissions on the error.log file are not correct. Please read that section of the installation instructions again carefully. There's also a script in http://yoursite/admin/install/check.php that checks the permissions for you.

Dirk,
I did do the right chmod -R 775 the files -- I did it right in the Linux shell -- and not 777...and I cannot find the check.php script your are talking about, I've tried it as http://mysite/admin/install/check.php & also http://mysite/logadmin/install/check.php and it gives me errors:

The requested URL was not found on this server.
So, what is going on here?!?!

That file needs to be owned by the user the webserver is running as usually noboby or www if you are going to use 775 permissions.

shared hosting? Chmod 777.
If you deleted the install directory already, you won't see the check.php file.
