adding more feature

im tring to add like an aim feature in the usersettings.php.. i know i have tried once but i was missing someting.. and i cant remember what... can anyone please tell me what is it that i need to know to be able to add this feature.. (sorry im a newbie at php and im tring to learn more.. thanx
