Yesterday I voted. Today I saw the results and I couldn't vote. This is ok: one user, one vote. But just now (24h after my vote?) I'm still logged in and suddenly I could vote again. Is this normal?

I'm curious because we have just started using polls in some GLs and want to know better how they work and how relialable are they. Thanks.

Dirk, are those links working? I'm having the same behavior on a couple of sites and are very interested in reading something on it.

Geeklog is so beautifully built that I don't think I would ever need
support or installation services. :D

But, I am concerned about the lack of truly standards-compliant
themes (HTML 4.01, XHTML, CSS, etc). We need themes that
comply and move us ahead in terms of truly shifting the layout
paradigm beyond simply 3-column layouts. Sure, 3-column is the
norm and probably will be for some time, but it should be possible
to also have other possibilities with new web technologies. (Please
create a theme that doesn't use tables!!!)

GL 1.3.x doesn't really seem to be built to support non-standard
layouts (possibly), but GL2 most certainly will have the capability
(from what I've gathered thus far about project goals).

Well, go ahead. No one is stopping you from creating one. We look forward to seeing what you come up with. By the way it's okay to use tables. None of those standards forbids their use. They were designed for tabular information.

Geeklog XHTML Compliance

I've made a theme that strips out most of the tables and junk.... it allowed me to build a layout based on CSS2 positioning. Tell your user base to say goodbye to Netscape 4! Anyway, I haven't shared this theme with anyone yet because it is incomplete. Worse, there is a lot of html code generated by the php scripts, including tables, borders, classes, etc. Not to mention the malformed
I could post this theme, but it is not really ready for use, even in its "plain" incarnation. If someone could open up a cvs repository for creating such a blank theme, and get guarantees from the core gl developers that they will move their code toward xhtml compliance (or, better, abstract the html out of the php to a greater extent, as much as possible), then this could be a reality.

I am more than willing to share this "blankCSS" theme, but I don't really think it's worth it. If anyone's interested, post a comment or email me, and I will send it to you.

Geeklog XHTML Compliance

This is certainly not the best place to discuss this, but chances that we'll ever get rid of the last pieces of hard-coded HTML are slim, to say the least. Geeklog 1.x wasn't written with that in mind, and it shows. Geeklog 2 will fix this.

The best thing you can expect from the current codebase is to be able to create themes that are HTML 4.01 transitional compliant (you can, I've done it), maybe even 4.01 strict, but certainly not XHTML.

As for a themes CVS: Ask Tom Willet for access to the gplugs.sf.net CVS which already has a subdirectory for themes (my ClearBlue and Rude_Colors themes are there).

I'm a technician for a computer firm in connecticut, I know that I could sell Geeklog as a package to several companies looking for a complete web site that they can customize and administer.

Actually, I don't believe there is any restriction around selling GPL software for a fee. You can charge as much as you want. It's just that anyone can also download it freely but if you can sell it go ahead. Normally, one would include custom services of some definition.

You must leave the license intact and make the source available.
