Is it possible to devide left menu into sections?

I need to create a left menu that is devided into sections like this

TOPIC1
submenu1
submenu2

TOPIC2
submeni1
submenu2


If I have to create a menu by scratch in html how do I know what is the url of each story section that I will be linking my menu to?
