Gallery Block problum

The new Gallery Block will not work unless you can change the php.ini to yes.
Problem is I'm a ftp user. Is there a way I can get the box to work some other way?
The box comes up and looks fine. I just keep getting these errors. The Creater don't know.
Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/virtual/site35/fst/var/www/html/lib-common.php(914) : eval()'d code:9) in /home/virtual/site35/fst/var/www/html/gallery/session.php on line 59

I like that.
Actually, I said that I solved it by setting output_buffering in the php.ini to 'On'. I found this solution in one of the forums here or on squatty.com.
Does anyone have another solution?

Oh, no prob. I just wanted to clarify the php.ini stuff so we didn't get a bunch of replies about that.
I'm really curious about any other solutions because I don't understand why gallery is sending headers or why the change to php.ini works!
As far as I can tell in this code from gallery's util.php, we should not be sending header info:
if (! isset($GALLERY_EMBEDDED_INSIDE)) {
header('Content-Type: text/html; charset=' . $gallery->charset);
}
