Quote by beewee:The directories are stil not correct and confusing for newbies.

Not sure what you mean by that. Please give more details.

Quote by beewee:Had a problem with the thumbs, so changed ImageCreate in ImageCreateTrueColor (in functions.inc).

I haven't tested it. Is it better with the new setting?

Quote by beewee:Robin, how do I get rid of the approval process?

You either hack it yourself or wait for RC5 Wink

Quote by beewee:Shouldn't that be an option to set in config.php?

Yes and will be in the next RC.

Quote by beewee:The additional fields are great BTW, but how can I display one of the in the adds list (recent added classifieds)?

The problem is that when you click on recent added it will display ads recently added, from different categories. Now as you define additional fields per categories ergo the fileds names differ.
This would require some additional modification of recent.php and currently I have no resources to manage that.

Normally when you unzip a plugin you see 3 directories:
/plugins/pluginname
/public_html/pluginname
/public_html/admin/plugins/pluginname

When I unzipped your plugin It's completely different. I can live with that, but others might get confused which will result in support questions on the forums.

Yes, it is.

You either hack it yourself or wait for RC5

I'm no php expert, I'll wait

You definitely got a point there. I could have thought of that myself. Leaves me speechless
But every classified ad needs a price, so wouldn't it be a good idea to make an extra 'fixed' field for the price and put that in the mentioned list?

Thanks again for all your efforts. Very Happy

Hmmm something must have changed recently cause when you unzip e.g. forum or file management plugins you get exactly what you see after unzipping zClassified and not what you mention Confused

Which release? In RC4 the structure is exactly the same as in e.g. forum or other GL plugins.

Well I have to disagree on this one. Take personal ads for example. You don't need price in such cases unless it's a hidden escort service of some kind Wink

I'm married 15 years next week, I don't have look at personal ads (really!). But in that case webmasters could change this price field to state or age, since these are relevant for these kind of ads. Just a matter of changing the language file or put it in config.php.

BTW do you have a PayPal account?

First of all congratulations on your 15th aniversary. We'll be celebrating our 6th this Sunday Very Happy
I'll take a look at your suggestion and see how this would work.

As a matter of fact I do have one Smile

A quick update:
- Added the submission to config so now it can be turned on/off.
- Found, hopefully, a compromize between beewee's suggestion and plugin's functionality. Now the additional info will be included in the summary pages. Have a look at it here and let me know what you think. I will add some formatting later. Smile

Robin, that looks really great! I would like to see the text 'List an ad' to show up only for logged in users but that's my problem, I can change that myself.

Great work Robin!

Fine work on this plugin. I think a very small change would make it even more useful. Instead of having the "Photo" column say "Yes" or "No", show the thumbnail or a "photo not available" image. This gives the user a lot of information up front. You might also move the photo column to the left of the "Subject" column. This gives the user an almost instant knowledge of exactly what is being traded.

Also, you might eliminate the "Detail" column altogether. It does very little but take up space. Instead, make the subject itself clickable to get the detail.

Just my Just my two cents

Very nice work.

That's one of my wishes too, but I don't want to ask too much. And it makes the page slower and increases the traffic.

Well, there ya go. IMHO, these changes have dramatically increased the usefulness of this plugin, especially should the plugin ever be used for hundreds of items. Imagine it. Now users will be able to quickly sort through the list by sight. Excellent work.

Now, on to more important things: about that '67 Mustang. I'll go ahead and take it off of your hands. I'll even give you *ahem* $50 above your asking price. Mr. Green

Seriously: what other features need to go into this code? Is there a feature list anywhere that I might view? Rather than add mere suggestions, I might try to post some code here that you might consider using if you like (simple stuff that you haven't gotten around to - I'm not very good, but I am learning to enjoy this).

  • Does the plugin use the submissions queue?
And if so, will it notify submitters of acceptance/rejection?
Can you add more than one image?
Can you sort the page listings?
    etc...

I would like to test it for you. I have been interested in this script to go on our erazz site. There is one change I would like to request.

Placing a charge on people that want to list items on the classified section. For example when a person logs into the site and goes to the (List An Add) he would be prompted to either pay by paypal or 2checkout or someother payment merchant. The price could be changed by the owner of the site. Also if there was a way to have the option to do the paymant or not would be an excellent idea.
We have books to sell and would like to recoupe some earnings from the sales.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

You might charge them a yearly fee. Nothing better than getting money in advance...

Something came up in my mind: would it be nice to put the add-title/url in the e-mail text when people are asking a question by e-mail? That might be making things easier for both client and merchant.

BTW Would't the ads look even better with the images on the bottom of the ad?

This feature list has been evolving and is being constantly changed.

    1. Yes
    2. Not at the moment (that would go to feature wishlist)
    3. Yes, up to five
    4. What do you mean by sorting?

The paid ads can be an option and will be added.

This would be good for like regular advertisers.

That's how it works in the original Ask a question script but there is a privacy issue as there is visible an email. So this has to be improved.

There are 400 cars in the "Autos" category. You want to see the car ads that have been for sale the longest. Currently, you must scroll to the bottom of the list (or maybe googlepage to the bottom) and then backtrack. A simple click on the "date added" column heading might reverse the list and make it even more useful.

The same holds true for the subject. If the latest ads listing has a variety of items, you might wish to have the list sorted ascending or descending so that you might quickly find all "Toasters" listed together. etc., etc...

I might be able to do this, but right now I am trying to put together a javascript scroller in a block. I am having a real problem with it. Perhaps you might be able to quickly answer my question here? If not, that's okay.

Robin , Would you consider making the optins a yearly and a per item listed charge? That way if a customer wants to be a subcribed member we can do that?

I'd consider anything that would improve the functionality of this plugin Smile That includes the possibility of charging peopele for their ads if that's your policy.
I haven't looked at the payment options yet. It's not the top priority but it's there Smile
