I would like to some features that requires cron functionality (like the digest function and subscribe to articles.) As far as I can tell my hosting company does not allow cron jobs. Is it possible to create a pseudo-cron function (one example is described here http://www.bitfolge.de/?l=en&s=pseudocron) Any suggestions on where the call would be made and are there security issues to be aware of? Yep, this is the method I was going to suggest. Just have a procedure that checks a pseudocron table every time there's a request for the index page.

It would only need one new table in the SQL, about 2 lines of code in the index.php, and whatever scripts you want run, possibly in a subdir called cron-scripts.

You could then have an option in the admin section to use either the pseudocron, manually set cron, or no cron. Ok, so this might need a table too.
