Anonymous cowards? Right. I\'m the initial poster, but I can\'t take the time to register. And heck, even if I registered, what would that mean to you? How do you define the opposite of anonymous? You want my name? What is that good to you? MAYBE if I gave you my entire BIO, you\'d be sattisfied. Well, that\'s a bit of a \"too much\" for just one little question.

I was frustrated when I saw a nicelly customized postnuke site. Heck, it had everything GL doesn\'t. What made me post the first post was the \"INSANE NEW FEATURE: FORUMS\", and the little news from yesterday (I think) that says the author was bored, so he made a little (something), and there, you poor silly humans, grab it if you want.

There are so many things that GL lacks. I know it\'s free, you got no profit from it whatsoever, but I hate it when people describe such (featureless) pieces of php code as \"insane and awesome stuff\". GL is lacking everything, from themes to forums! If I tried to submit a bug, a whatever that might contribute to it (I already have a language pack), I\'m sure noone would be interested in it or even publish it, as it takes too much of their \"I\'m bored... time\".

How can I take someone seriously if they don\'t even stand behind what they post with their name? No need to register, just a name, maybe an email address. But you\'re hiding and that\'s what I\'d call an anonymous coward ...

Also, you seem to have no idea what you\'re talking about. That post about someone being bored and making a plugin was not by one of the Geeklog authors. It was by one individual who spent some of his free time to contribute something to the community. Your contribution so far was ... what exactly?

I have no idea what your point about bug reports is. Bug reports are taken seriously since all of us would like to have a piece of software that has (next to) no bugs. But if you don\'t even want to do that, then you truly haven\'t understood the idea of an open source community.

Oh, and before you switch to PostNuke with all its nice features you might want to check out how often their name was mentioned on Bugtraq ... Geeklog has another focus, guess what it is.

If you\'re missing a feature - fine. Make a feature request, suggest something, contribute something (code, money, enthusiasm, anything). But stop complaining.

A lot of people, not only the core Geeklog team (did you even know Geeklog is a team effort?), are contributing a lot of their time to this project. And then, every once in a while, someone comes along and complains that it doesn\'t do this and that and \"threatens\" to use something else instead. Oh yeah, that\'s what\'s going to motivate us to do exactly what you want, don\'t you think?

I will stop here before I waste too much of my time with this ...

Oh well, first I\'d like to apologize for making you mad (weren\'t you?) and than throw a few things in:

I am NO WAY threathening anyone that I\'ll use something else (postnuke perhaps?), as this would be an action of a 10-year old.

I\'m a programmer, and I know exactly what user support means, especially if you\'re writing free software!

And heck, the forum is the only thing gl misses. Well, so far.

It takes less than 60 seconds to pop in a username and an emailaddress,
open a window on your mail client and get the password, and log on. Then
you can post with all the respect and credibility any user is entitled to.

I have closely followed several blogs and several portals over the last two
years. I assess the Big Three blogs as Greymatter, CafeLog, and
Moveable Type. The Big Five portals (CMS) according to number of
downloads at Sourceforge and the user satisfaction ratings at HotScripts
are phpNuke, PostNuke, Geeklog, phpWebSite, and myphpnuke.

The three Nuke-alikes have a big selection of addons with lots of people
throwing uncoordinated efforts into the mix. They pile patches on top of
mods on top of hacks on top of the same old core code. Makes me think
of an overloaded rowboat.

The other two -- Geeklog and phpWebSite -- appear to be the only ones
with a defined direction and rock-solid core code. Neither of these latter
two have the gluttonous array of addons you find at the Nuke-family
buffet, but they do have well-engineered code. Both come from good
homes. Both exercise good security and both know their biggest user
groups are in virtual (shared) hosting environments, so the code is
well-behaved and forgiving.

The forum will come. Someday. If you gotta have it NOW! then (a) run
phpBB without GL integration, or (b) pick a nuke-aloid that's already got it
all.

First off, I am not the same guy that posted this thing, second, I didn't register becasue it's to late, and before I fall asleep on my keyboard, I'd like to poiny out a few things. GEEKLOG is more secure than POSTNUKE. Hell, someone that's helping me with my site says there are many exploits with postnuke, and he said he is set to find one on Geeklog, so, there is a huge plus on Geeklog's side. Also, Geeklog has all the feautre's it's needs. If you want something get off your lazy ass and program it. And if you don't know how, learn, or are you to lazy to do that too? Now, shud up, download Geeklog and use it.

Registering only takes a few minutes, tops. Seconds, even, depending on
your typing proficiency and the quality of your e-mail service.

Ever since I became involved with GeekLog (last May, I believe), the GL
team has done a lot with the blog and I\'ve nothing but praise for that
team as well as the various contributors out there with their \"bored\" but
useful postings.

You\'re not just a coward, but also a lazy bum who happens to be afraid
of what GeekLog has to offer.
