*nukes and ton\'s of plugins

Sure the *nukes have ton\'s of plugins, but as someone that used PHPnuke let me explain a good reason why. Just about every time there is a new version of a *nuke, the plugin system has to be completly changed and old one\'s don\'t work. Thats why I switched to GL. However, I\'m having difficulties with GL\'s upgrade scripts causing mass errors in the DB.

I hate to say it, but the documentation isn\'t what it could be either. I give a lot of creadit to the GL coding crew, you guy\'s do a ton of work for free and have done a great job since the creator had to step down. I can\'t knock you guy\'s for that. But a serious issue is that the newer versions require mostly that you have telnet access to set it up and many potential users don\'t have that. Couple that with many of us are PHP stupid and you get a hell of a challange setting up GL or upgrading from older versions.

I really like GL, but I think it\'s going to have to develope a bit more to the \"any idiot can setup\" phase before you see the kind of support an following the *nukes have. While I would like to see that, please oh please don\'t make GL as bloated as the *nukes though.

There is work being done on a completely new documentation. So hopefully, this problem will go away over time.

And you don't need telnet access to install Geeklog. I don't have telnet access where I host my websites and I can still install Geeklog. You just need to edit the config.php before you upload it. Also most (if not all) ftp clients allow you to do chmod commands. And after that, the rest of the setup and configuration is done from the browser. So there is no need for telnet access ...
