"I have a question though, when i click on teh main gallery page , it too shows a random image block as well as GL, so it looks weird."

Keep the Image block enabled in G2, but in the G2 admin, Display->Themes->Matrix make sure that 'Image Block' is not selected for any of the settings. This worked for me...

"Also is there a way to disable the left menu bar on G2, so as to just show the pics with no menu selections"

This should be controlled by the setting on the GL_Gallery2 admin page "Put Gallery2 block in a geeklog block". Then you can disable it or make it only visible to the admin user if you like.
