Geeklog 1.3.10 released

AnnouncementsThe official release version of Geeklog 1.3.10 is now finally available for download. Thanks to everyone who contributed code, ideas, criticism, and time for testing the release candidates.

A quick recap of some of the new features: New default theme (HTML compliant, at last), SpamX plugin included, story archive option, editable story IDs, autolinks, and more.

We hope you'll like it.

For those upgrading from 1.3.10rc3, there were only two changes in system/lib-plugins.php and plugins/staticpages/functions.inc to allow omission of the link text for the built-in autotags (Geeklog will use the object's title automatically then). Also updated were the Chinese language files and some of the documentation.

Reminder: The old stock themes are available as a separate tarball now.

A word on the comment spam that has plagued quite a few Geeklog sites recently: With the inclusion of the SpamX plugin (thanks again to Tom Willet!), tracking of IP addresses of comment posters, and a form to report abusive comments, Geeklog now has quite a nice armory to effectively fight comment spam. And if the comment spammers catch up - which they invariably will - it's easy to fight back by writing new extensions for the SpamX plugin (which can simply be dropped in the SpamX plugin's directory, so you won't have to wait for a new Geeklog release).

Blaine is working on a SpamX-enabled version of the Forum plugin, which already catches forum spam reliably here on geeklog.net.

great job!

I have upgraded 2 of 4 sites now and they work fine, the upgrade went smooth.

Just as a remark: the "old set of themes" works fine, but SmoothBlue at least does not support the menu settings in the config.php, the code has to be adapted first.

When upgrading from RC3
Authored by: austex on Monday, November 29 2004 @ 11:03 AM EST
So when upgrading from RC3, just those two files - system/lib-plugins.php and plugins/staticpages/functions.inc, need to be upgraded/replaced?

Sounds good.

Geeklog Team,

Thank you so much for everything you do. Honestly, as my little non-profit organization grows at each step of the way I always remember that it would've been very difficult without having made the intelligent decision I did by using Geeklog for our site.

Also, I've even gotten to know a few of you - and I'm almost always in awe at the level of kindness and respect each of you gives us fans! THANKS!

Your Friend,

- Marco

As usual, we don't supply upgrade archives between major releases, as there are too many files that have changed.

I upgraded from 1.3.9sr1 and my site is hosed now. New stories are
randomly read-only for the author. Stories can't be edited by authors
even when have Edit Access. Story Admins no longer can edit. The
super admin is the only user that can edit anything. How did my
permissions get blown? Should I roll back to 1.3.9 and leave it?

Ah! It was the templates, english.php and an incorrect permission
setting for a topic. Got it all figured out. Thanks!

Hello,

I managed to make a theme which is XHTML+CSS compliant (XHTML
1.0 Strict) for version 1.3.9sr1, but I had to change some .php
sources. I even did it for Filemgmt plugin.

Would it be possible in future versions to write the code so that
formatting is not included in the PHP code?

Just because as I finished XHTML conversion, version 1.3.9sr2
appeared.

I would do it myself since I have some experience with PHP, but I
have little time to do so.

I love XHTML+CSS and always write compliant code because I like
the way it looks in my editor :-)

Keep up with this really good work, I love the simplicity but power of
Geeklog.

How do I get the "report abuse" link to show up in the comments?
Upgraded my site to 1.3.10, switched to default theme, and it still
doesn't show?

The admin won't see them.

To be more precise: If you have the rights to delete a comment, you won't see that link, since, obviously, you don't need it ...

Good point. Checked it out in a regular account and sure enough it's
there. Thanks!

Did you know that in the What's Related block, the links "More by
(user)" and "More from (topic)" don't work? I already submitted a bug
report but thought I'd mention it here too.

Keep up the great work!

Ahh thanks that fixed it, but I found another bug!

Maybe you'll squash this one too, but have you noticed that the first "Parent" link in a comment thread takes the user back to the homepage, and not the article page of the mother story! Other parent links below the first works fine, bringing the user up to the last (first) comment.

Submitted this bug to CVS too.

Geeklog 1.3.10 and localization tag
Authored by: roberto on Sunday, December 19 2004 @ 01:13 PM EST
Sorry for my bud english :-(

With the new version, the localization of the code for insertion of the images does not work to me more.

Example, if I use [immagine1] in articole does not work (before it worked normally), instead with [image1] it works.

Tnx.
