Haha id be using it more if i could log in as admin. iv tried
everything in the forums even the white space on almost every file
used has been deleted. I like geeklog i want to use it even more.

I just installed it this week. I had tried to install PHPWebsite but failed miserably. Geeklog was incredibly straightforward; thanks. I plan to do all of my work with GL.

I'd just like to point out that on this poll, the people that have been using Geeklog a long time are probably the least likely to return to the main site on a frequent basis to vote on this poll, so the numbers are going to be skewed towards those investigating or installing for the first time.

I rarely need to check in anymore BECAUSE Geeklog works so well. I try to check in once in awhile to see what new plugins people have shared, but definitely not as often as when I first installed Geeklog.

I just hate to see someone misinterpret this poll as indicating that most people just look at Geeklog or try it out for awhile, but few stick with it for more than a year.

Well i would try it now... but Fantastico has bugs.. and the install readme on here is... well... i got asfair as reading it and tought... no way am i doin all that... so im gonna hv to wait... :(

Do all what? It takes less than 3 minutes to install, at least that's how long it took the first time. The second time was 1 minute. Then again some say I'm "fast".

I've just begun investigating Geeklog. I have a Zope site currently, which I like and am comfortable with, but I'm tired of my hosting fees. I have a free host available, with PHP and MySQL, but no Zope. I have looked at several CMS systems, including Drupal and Tikiwiki, but Geeklog has a lot of what I need and it seems a lot simpler than those others.

There are a few things I have been looking for in GL, and I think I have most of them worked out:

1) WYSIWYG entry. I'm a programmer, but nobody else associated with the site is. Nobody wanted to learn about wiki markup or Zope's Structured Text syntax, they're sure not going to want to mark their posts up in HTML. This seems to be solved (sorta) with htmlArea integration, but leaves my mac users (half of the site folks are on macs) out in the cold. However, I just found the bloggar API plugin, and that would be just fine. We windows types could use w.bloggar and I'm sure there's a client for OSX.

2) Group calendaring. I admit, when I created events with myself as the owner and a group that the other users are members of, I expected when I logged in as one of them to see the events on "My Calendar". I see integration with another calendar is in progress, but I may just try to hack the calendar query instead.

3) True community building. GL's forum plugin (if that's what I see running on all the GL sites) looks at least as nice as phpBB, so that's pretty good. But what about user blogs? Why can't I push ANY entry to the front page? What if there's something great on the forums? Why can't I just promote it to a front page story? Some of this only applies to my dreams for the future, not my current needs for the site, so I think GL is going to work out for now.

Plus, I like the attitude and community around here. Frankly, the Zope community, Tikiwiki community, and Drupal communites, along with GL, have all been friendly and supportive and generally a bunch of nice folks. I'd have dropped GL like a rock if it were hostile here, given that alternatives exist.

Oh, and the install was very smooth - on a remote host that I don't have root on. Nicely done, guys!

Group Calendar

I hacked the existing calendar to manage events by group a little while
back - check in the downloads area, and you will find my diffs to 1.3.7 -
would make a good starting point. If you make diffs for a newer
version, I'm sure lots of people would appreciate it!

It turns out that just removing personal calendars and adding the Site Calendar plugin has taken care of most of my calendar needs. I haven't yet attempted to integrate a WYSIWYG editor, but I'm intending to give Dirk's blogger API plugin a try so we can use blogging clients.

It should be noted that since my initial post, I've set up a 1.3.9rc3 site, updated it to the final, helped a friend set up his 1.3.8 site, and am planning a third.

Geeklog is good stuff, plain and simple.

I tried installing it back in November 2002 but had problems with it. I had just begun blogging and was also investigating Greymatter and Movable Type. (My blog has been running Movable Type for two years now.)

But I have another site that I wanted to be more than just a blog. And I remembered Geeklog. Somehow, everything went much more smoothly this time.

And Geeklog's developer, Dirk, seems very responsive. I notice how quickly he follows up when someone needs help. That's not lost on me. He's not getting paid for this proggy (but perhaps he should; it's really great).

I tried installing Drupal and E107 (which is very elegant, but much more difficult to customize than Geeklog IMHO), and a few other oddball CMS's, but this is the one that seems to offer the most power and control and yet still easy enough for someone who's not a coder or programmer to handle.

For Awial Now. Well i finally got it working on osx panther. Hehehe it runs fast n' very stable check it out. I like it alot. there are a few bugs here n there. Yet im sure they are known n will be gone in the next version. Bugs like escapes for apostrophy s in titles of links catagories. n' parenthesis at the end of User names when looking at someones profile. other then its great. it could use some other things such as nested links where say like you have a general subject topic like DJs then the typs of music. that way you could have (Link topic) DJs Then (Sub topics) Trance Jungle Rap ect. Then the Actual links. I am going to make an installer for this so newbes dont have to go through what i had to to get this going. That wont be for awail as im new to programming hence new to making installers. i just dont want them to have to deal with the command line which happens to be the easiest way to do something like that. Oh well. I will post the link when its done.

I've been using Geeklog for almost a year now. The support and community have been great so far and assisted with any problems that I have encountered along the way. As far as blogging software GL seems to be very scalable when using mod_php for apache. Unlike Moveable Type in-which a Perl session is spawned for each concurent session I am able to host quite a bit of traffic off of this app. :) My site is Here if anyone wants to check it out.

Although I haven't upgraded to the latest RC's yet I do hope that upgrades will soon be more automated to make it an easier process for those of us who spend less time managing the backend of our sites.

I've been a long time user of Geeklog, ever since Jason Whittenburg was the author. Even helped a little bit on the coding.

I'm currently using the base code to develop my own project, Project Mango, which will be a complete group portal tool. I'm going to put up a site soon once I've sorted out hosting to show the project off.

Whoa, can't believe that I have GL installed for almost 2 years. It started out pretty painfull. But that's because I know nothing of PHP. Baptism by fire is not nice but I learn so much. Looking back, I realize that GL is actually a lot simpler than I thought. I over complicate some of the thing during my first installation. RTFM also helps a lot. My speed reading at that time really didn't work that well.. :-(

Either way, the help I get from the GL gang like Dirk was amazing. I hate to say this but the help I get from these people are so much better than some of other products tech support that I actually have to pay for.

Great job gang. Please keep up the good work. Many thanks for the great product and support and I'm so looking forward to GL 2.0 especially the community groupware base.

Two years and half! I'm very happy with Geeklog, but since 1.3.7 i didn't upgrade anymore because there is many code "hacked" by me... For example, creating PDF, all stories list, PDA version and more little things.

I've been running it since June. Wow, it's only been 4 months, but it seems like I've had it forever and have been making great progress on the site. I had my domain for 2 years and didn't do much with it, but since I started using geeklog it has become a full featured portal and I'm not even close to done with it yet. :)

most likly it has been almost 2 years . i was looking into all sorts of post-nuke spin-off's then ran into geeklog , gl was the last one i installed . being on windows i was installing awstats ( manualy,by hand) and came across AeonServ so
