Hi,
I have recently installed geeklog 1.8.1 (as a subpage) on a new server I just moved my site to. I didn't use Migrate. The site is at
www.BestChartSoftware.com/blog

I seem to find everything working except after logging in as admin and selecting configuration I pretty much get a blank page except for header and footer with the welcome and date message.

Also when I select Contribute, or Stories/Create New, from within Admin, I get the Story Editor heading , but the rest is blank. However if I login as an ordinary user I am able to contribute a new story (so the problem seems to be in admin).

I have tried several browsers, (I.E.FFox, Chrome) and get the same results. I also can't see any issue with permissions but I'm not an expert here.

I'm guessing there is a setting somewhere that is wrong, but I can't find it. can anyone help please.

Hi,

Did you try to upload a fresh admin folder? Maybe something was lost during the files transfert.

Thanks Ben.

I deleted the old admin folder, and uploaded the pre install version from my computer, but it didn't make any difference so it is still not working.

I can't think of a setting that would cause this type of problem.

Is anything showing up in the error.log file?

Curious...did you try using the professional theme that shipped with the archive? I see your using a custom theme. Is it possible that you missed something when updating the theme? Do you have ALL the updated files from the professional theme sub-directories copied over?

Laugh,
I checked the error.log file. I should check it more often, but I can't see anything related to this issue.

Michael,
I am using the standard Professional theme, except for the header.thtml and footer.thtml files have been replaced with ones that match the rest of my site. Unless something in the header and footer could affect the config, that shouldn't be the problem. When I did the clean install on this new server it should have had all the original standard files. I didn't leave anything out, but afterwards just copied across the previous header and footer from the old site on the old server that was working.

Since you move this to a new website did any of the paths or domain changed? You didn't use the migrate option but since it seems to be fine for other users I thought maybe that wasn't it. Since we have ruled out a few other things maybe you should try to migrate the db.

Another thing you could try is setup a temporary database and reinstall Geeklog using your current files to see if that works (just to confirm it is not a file issue and most likely a db issue).

Okay well then that could be your problem...don't know for sure. Backup your copy of the theme your using, rename that directory if it is called professional and then copy the professional directory and subs from the archive to your layout directory on your site. If you have made a change in the config to default to the custom theme, rename that fresh professional theme to the custom theme name. Then see if your able to cruise around and get into everything. If you see no problems, then there was something wrong with your custom theme and you missed an update.

Since it seems that it could be a number of things (especially things that I did), on the weekend when I have the time, I'll make sure I have a backup of all my settings and Db etc, then download a fresh version and install that and check everything works in the off the shelf version before I swap to my headers etc. Then if all is ok, I will make one change at a time and recheck the config works before moving to the next part. Either that will tell me where the problem code is or everything will work.

Thanks for your help.
