Hello,

I'm working on a new plugin call Maps.

What it can do now is to geolocalize the profile user's location if it is set. You can see a preview here.

It can also allow you to create maps on the fly with an autotag. You can see some examples here.

Next step is to create a collaborative maps and allow admin and users to submit markers...

Can you add a form to supply a route's source (assuming the original location is the target)? That way a user could write where they live to know how to get to the target.

A "Need directions?" is now available. Any feedback welcome.

The next step is the ability for admin to create map with multi points (markers).
Users may submit maps and new markers, and there will an option for free markers or paid markers.

Very nice! That's exactly what I meant. Please don't forget to make it multilingual.

Also, I think you should add another line with "e.g.":

Need directions? Enter your address:
(e.g. X street, Berlin, Germany)

Otherwise, users who are used to local map sites will not enter their country, which may cause uncertainty. Without the "e.g." they may also not know it's possible to enter a street and house numbers. Google Maps is free but is very unique in having a non user friendly single input field for all of the information.

Last but not least, is there a way to supply an API key?

Thanks. Although it would raise the question of which country "owns" which language (because each language is supposed to write its own country in the e.g.).

API keys are available on google site

I know. I meant can one use their own API key in the autotag's created map?

Could (e.g. number street's name, city, country) do the job Confused:

For using the google maps, maps plugin's admin need to sign for one API key per domain. So only one API key is use.
Sorry but I don't understand "can one use their own API key" Confused:

It would be unnatural to use the general term "country" if it's local site.

As for API keys, I thought they were only an option. My full meaning was "what if one wants to use an API key instead of the default Google Maps"? By your answer I guess it's not an option but a requirement. Does Google really forbid one to embed Google Maps without a key?

I beleive they do. If you do not have one for the domain then a message box complaining about it will come up when you visit the page with the map on it.

I would like to have a small map embeded in each article with a marker and a large map on a seperate page showing all the markers from the different articles.

I did have some sucess by putting the map into the Autotagg function

This is what the autotag can do as you can set the map size in the config aera.

and a large map on a seperate page showing all the markers from the different articles.

I can add this feature. An automatic will be available with all markers from the autotags. I need to categorize markers from profile and from story to allow two different maps.

This a new way for:
I would like to have a small map embeded in each article with a marker and a large map on a seperate page showing all the markers from the different articles.

For better control on markers, you will need to create a map (is it what the maps plugin is build for), and add a new marker for each article. Then in articles you will use the new autotag [marker : XXXX] where XXXX is the marker ID to embed a small map with one marker (same render as the [geo] autotag), and you would display your large map anywhere with all the markers via the autotag [maps : YYYY] where YYYY is the map ID.

Little update with a new beta release. Users on geeklog.fr can set their profile location to show a map (see mine) and there is a new design interface for the map controls.

The plugin can create map and will display markers soon.

Your profile's map has an ad while the custom map hasn't. Is it something random by Google or is it your AdSense?

Yes it is in the plugin config. You can select if you want to display ads (from your adsence account) or not on profile or with the geo autag.

Good news... Markers from the admin area are now alive. Admins can build maps and there is also a global map to show all markers available. Next step, allowing marker submission from user and comments on maps.

I added a new feature : A users map is created with users location settings. Take a look on this page ( Smile I'm the only one with a location set).

Now I'm not alone on the map Smile

Thanks to Koalasoft, I solved a bug with About tab display.

Another issue with this users map, if you only set your location to a country, USA for exemple, your icon will be behind the icon from the next member setting also is location to USA. You will need to be more precise (street and city) to show your location.

I'm working on the submission form and I will try to make a first stable release next week.
