Slow Processing Times over cell and satellite

On my server (Windows 2003 and IIS) my pages are usually generated in under 1 second as reported by geeklog at the bottom of the page. The interesting thing I notice last weekend is that when accessing my sites via internet satellite or my rocket stick (internet over cell phones at 3G speeds) the processing times go up to 5-7 seconds.

Anyone know the reason why, is it a IIS, php or Geeklog issue?

I do have the gus plugin installed so I am wondering if it is something with this?

Normal staright html websites are fine.

The time in the footer is how long it takes to prepare the page, i.e. get the content from the database, run the template library, stuff like that. The actual transfer time of that page to you is, obviously, not included. Therefore, the time displayed shouldn't differ when you're on a slow connection.

The only explanation is that in the process of preparing the site content, Geeklog will also have to do something that goes through your slow connection. This shouldn't include requests to external sites (say, to get the content of an RSS feed), since those would use the server's internet connection, not yours.

I'm not too familiar with the technical details of the GUS plugin. Could it do something over your line? Or maybe something else on your site?

bye, Dirk

I realize that and that is why I was confused as to why the sites content was taking longer to generate. I wish I did more tests when I was visiting the family. I guess I will have to wait until Thanksgiving unless someone else has experienced something similar.

I've figured this problem out.

It is the GUS plugin when the host lookup is set to use gethostbyaddr

Setting it to nslookup (since I am using Windows Server) returns the page at normal speeds.
