First off, with all sincerity, I started web design about 4 year ago with this very CMS... not knowing anything about anything and the education that "fixing" this CMS provided to me has been priceless. Thanks, in a very strange way Dirk.

Well, I'm back because I am upgrading my first site to the newest stable release. I've found the installation upgrade instructions, but my situation is rather unique and I can not find anything on it here. I need to move my geeklog site onto my staging server ( not local ), upgrade it, make the necessary design changes, and then pull it back onto the production server.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Read through Migrating a Geeklog site. In 1.5.x, there's also some awkwardness involved regarding the config data in the database (although you won't have that problem when upgrading from 1.4.x or earlier).

HTH

bye, Dirk

You could also wait a short while for GL 1.6.0

I welcome these challenges now that I understand what 90% of the errors mean and how to try and fix them. I need to get this site off the server that it is on now because I am paying for a dedicated server and a shared host for this site. Waste of money at this point, so I just want to get it over with.

We are trying to move our website to another domain name, moving the data was easy, we just copied the whole website to the new folder on our server.

We changed the settings in siteconfig.php and run the Geeklog 1.5 Migration tools, we filled in the same path as before only difference the new sub-folder.

The script seems not working, as we try to login to our new domain name it still go's to the old domain name...

What do we do wrong?

You can see the new URL and when logging into GL what happens then?

I want to know how to move my Geeklog site to another host or domain too.

I never done this before but I guess I have to do like this:

1. backup the database and download to local computer.
2. download all geeklog folder to local computer.
3. upload geeklog to new server.
4. import the databas same thing as when do the backup.
5. change the siteconfig.php path.
6. then run site migration script.

Do this is correct?. I need some one help, please.

thanks.

In the end I did this...

I made a backup of the original database, login as admin and changed the URL settings in configuration then downloaded the database again (other location)... and uploaded the old database with the correct settings.

Then I imported the newly created database into the website on the new URL and it works fine...

Nothing else did seem to work...

My trick worked a bit, basically everything works except I have no way to set the path of the theme (which is currently still pointed to the old path)

Must be that I didn't had my coffee yet, I found it already. It was very logical located under theme's in the configuration....  How stupid of me
