About a month ago, I updated to 1.4.1. At the time, I disabled new user accounts. Today I re-enabled new user registration and encountered a problem in the Geeklog email process.

Prior to the upgrade, I had chosen the built-in 'mail' option in the config file to have the site send emails. Never had any problems that I can recall. I left that setting intact once I upgraded. I tested the new user registration process today and here is what happened:

1.) The new user received an on-screen confirmation of success via the website registration page and was told and email would be forthcoming. (I have the site set for admin approval of all new users)
2.) The admin account received an email of a new user registration as expected.
3.) A new user was waiting in the admin panel new submission area of the site for admin approval.
4.) Admin approved new user and user list show new user as active.
5.) New user NEVER receives activation/password email. Checked all error logs and spam boxes on user destination email account and nothing there.

I tried to email the new user from the admin panel area. Seemed to go just fine and I got the on-screen "success" notification. That email also never reaches the user.

Both the new user registration and emailing of users worked prior to my upgrade.

I edited the config file and set it up to use the SMTP process instead. Now the new user receives the activation/password email and can also receive admin panel generated emails.

Naturally, some will say "so what's the problem then?" None that prevents my site from operating, but I thought maybe the fine folks at Geeklog would like to know in case they either have a fix or had not encountered this before.

Question - is one of the email choices (mail, sendmail, or smtp) more secure to use than others?

Thanks,

Lou

SMTP HAS to be more secure you can use a real mail server and a real mailbox, if you use a real mail server then your message will not be marked a s spam so often
I had real problems with the site sending mail but No problems with smtp.
