I wish geeklog would allow multiple Featured Stories. There are many cases for me that I would like an article to be a feature in just a topic and still have another story in a different or same topic be the feature that appears on the home page.

My work around for this currently is to modify the story dates of the stories I want to appear first in a topic.

What would the main page look like? Suppose there are 5 topics and 3 of them have a featured story: two from today and one from 5 weeks ago (slow topic). Does the main page show the 3 featured stories at the topic and then only 2 more stories (assuming a 5 story front page)? Does it only show the most recent featured story in the featured spot and then the rest of the stories in descending date order? Having multiple featured stories is easy on the individual topic pages, but you need to make the main front page make sense too.

I would only allow one feature per topic and front page. I would see the Featured Modes for a story being -

Not Featured
Featured Topic Only
Featured Front Page Only
Featured Topic & Front Page

Not featured
Featured in Topic
Featured in Topic and Front Page

That would be so much easier to hack into 1.4.1 without too many code changes. Including Featured on Front Page Only means you wouldn't want it as a hack.

As I said before though, you should make a feature request.

Curious to know if anyone has even looked at this and has any idea of how much of a development task this would be on 1.4.1?

Would love to know if this is a 2 hour task to hack or a 20 hour task.

Regards-

It would be much easier in 1.5 whenever that is released. I'd guess it's about 5-6 hours work since it hits index.php, lib-story, the story editor and all the language files.
