Having real problems with this one, I really want users to have a "Home Page"
can anyone share their experiences installing this one ?
Or is there something else, anything that produces a decent Home page ??
There HAS to be a solution.....
Thanks...

Upages is far from mature, I'm afraid I can't help you with it...
Dutch Geeklog sites about camping/hiking:

I was looking at hacking the static pages plugin, however I got stuch because I want users to browse all the uer pages, like a directory of user pages, that I don't know how to do, so I am having to write a php/myssql data base and fit it into geeklog to get this kind of functionality. So I'm still interested if anyone has an idea...

What would this home page do? What would be on it? How? Can they rearrange your block structure? Can they put links on it? What do you actually want these home pages to do?

Personaly I would like just a User Home page but since I am extreemly stupid and not knowlegable I am writing a PHP/SQL database so users can login and alter a database record which will then be displayed on a static page. o the info displayed would be determined by the database fields I program in. Not perfect but it will have to do !

What is on the user home page? I'm still not understanding this part. What kind of customizations can a user make to his homepage? What kind of content appears on a home page?

Most of the customizations I can think of can be done on the userprofile page (ignore topics, ignore contributors, etc).

Oh interesting Idea yes, that could be used for some features.
I was looking for a mini web site, so pictures, resume, descriptions of various idea's etc.... and of course searchable, certainly an expanded user profile would fit most of that but I am trying to get some kind of sponsorship section set up so we can have a searchable database with pictures and data regarding those wanting sponsorship. perhaps the expanded user profile might fit the bill for some of it ???

I too am looking for something different than the users profile page. I am looking for a page that the users manage themselves that is similar to a newsletter page. They could update it from time to time. It could include information like their address, pictures, and whatever info they want to throw in there. I was thinking originally that, like upages, just a simple html editor would be sufficient. I am thinking now that too many of those who use it couldn't handle that so a type of form they fill out would be good too.

That is a good idea a form, and the possibility of more pages, i just do not know how to do that in geeklog so i was going to do a data base php page which I guess would be a bit like a form. But a form would be good, perhaps the user profile could be expanded with fields only visable on a user pages area ?

I am considering customizing and adding some fields to the user's account information page that they can fill out. I would then have their home page pull from that info. I would thin have a directory page listing all the members and link to their individual "home page" so others can view it. I am stuck in between wanting it to be robust and full featured and wanting it to be very simple to implement, and more importantly, to use.

I'll keep posting on any progress I make.

This sounds good will the "home page" be a seperate page from the users details or will it just be modified ?

This sounds like a simple plugin. You put the homepage link in the user menu and the user directory link in the main menu. On the homepage is the data plus an edit button so you can modify it. As a plugin, you can override index.php's normal story stuff using PLG_showCenterblock(0,...) to completely replace the normal index.php. The only thing that makes it hard to write is deciding what can go on a homepage. You might investigate how the staticpage plugin works if you really want to allow an html homepage.

I'm actually working on a plugin that would help here, but it's still in its infancy so I don't want to go into any details. I doubt I'll have anything to release for several months. But this may motivate me a bit.
