I'm considering moving my GL/Gallery site to DreamHost [http://dreamhost.com/].

Is anyone hosting a GL/Gallery site there? Any problems setting up? What's the service been like?

I have been using DreamHost for Gallery and Geeklog for about a month now. I was very happy until this afternoon when DreamHost disabled allow_url_fopen globally.

So far, I have seen no issues with Gallery; however, GL will not process RSS Feeds in blocks properly now. Because DH does not allow for changes to .htaccess files for these settings, I am going to need to look at fixing the feeds using DH's suggestion of using CURL.

Unless GL can provide a different solution.

I'm having this same problem now as well... It's frustrating.

I was trying to set up a PHP Block with magpie but all it keeps doing is throwing the info up at the tope of my website above geeklog.

So if you figure out how to use curl can you let me know?

I did take some time to look at modifying the code to use CURL instead of the fopen method. I was able to get it to work; however, I want to take a little bit longer to review it and make sure I am not missing anything obvious and I haven't broke anything else.

It also required a modification to the lib-common.php file and I would like some feekback form Dirk or others on the best approach for making this a more permanent fix. Or if I should try and implement it in lib-custom.php.

All in all, it was a pretty quick fix to make. I did notice that the same type of fix will need to be made inside the Spam-X plug-in to support the auto download of blacklists.

I'd need to see it first to be able to make a comment.

Also, FYI, the next Geeklog release will handle feeds differently. It still relies on fopen, but the code is very different from the current code ...

bye, Dirk

If you do not mind, I will email you my replacement function for review. I do not feel comfortable posting it here.

In regards to the next version, any chance to build in CURL versus fopen or will fopen be provided in a more secure manner?

I'm going to try and tackle this issue tonight (and implement cURL, although I know nothing about i) as well, but I'm pretty much just a little more then a novice when it comes to php code, I work at it till it does what I want it to do.
