I'm an idiot

So I join this club. It's a nice club and cost me a bundle to join, but the perks include cheaper slip rates for my sailboat.

But, beside that, I sign up to re-amp their website. It's been done in GeekLog, and that's why i'm here. After a couple days, the site looks good, most of the info is updated and I have a 75% feeling that I know what I'm doing.

But I also have no problem admitting I have no idea what I'm doing.

I am not about to 'upgrade' from my old version, since that would tweak somebody, but I hate this 'yahoo' theme, yet I can't seem to change it to ' clean' on the default via the config.php. Arrr. I log-in and I can get the 'clean' theme, which looks cool enough, and kills those icons, but for new viewers...they get "Yahoo." uck.

Is upgrading my only path?

Next. The Media Gallery and "News" keep coming up in the central block, I can't find any way to kill these puppies.

While we are here, the masthead is also something that seems carved in stone, but I can't change the info from my user control.

Other than these three things, I've gottten control and have altered the whole website very much to my pleasure. I have static pages on all the central blocks that satisfy my club's needs, and all the topics and such work great.

BUT THOSE TWO DAMNED "media gallery' AND 'general news" BLOCKS AT THE BOTTOM DRIVE ME NUTS. Only because I can't figure out how to turn them off.

Without asking 'the guy that knows.'

That's my last resort.

Don,

Sounds like you have a Media Gallery album 'featured', that will cause it to display in the center block. If that is the case, simply make sure you are logged in as an admin, go into the album that is 'featured', edit and turn off the Featured Album checkbox.

Or, if you want to completely turn off Media Gallery, go into Admins Only -> Plugins -> Media Gallery and disable it. That will completely kill it.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks!
Mark

Read the FAQ How do I change the default theme?

About upgrading: You should at least make sure you're running on the latest "patch level" for your Geeklog version. Anything that's older than 1.3.11sr7 or 1.4.0sr5-1 is, I'm afraid, insecure and you risk your site getting hacked.

Mark, that did it. Thanks. I haven't spent any time in the media gallery and hadn't stumbled across their settings.

Dirk, I will look up the patch.

One more question...I have "No News To Display" on the bottom/center of every page. I can't find the toggle to switch this off either. Anyone want to point me in the right direction?

There's no option for this (yet). Search for the message text and you'll find a patch for it somewhere on the forum.

bye, Dirk

I edited out a chunk of code on the bottom of the index.php file and it worked great.
