Well, if you don't give us an error message or anything else to work on, we can't help you ...

The above was a simple path problem (i.e. a path was not set correctly in config.php). Not sure how you came to the conclusion that it had something to do with the database.

bye, Dirk

$_CONF['path'] = '/var/www/html/geeklog/';

in config.php and

require_once( '/var/www/html/geeklog/config.php' );

in lib-common.php.

Plus $_CONF['site_url'] set to whatever the URL equivalent of /var/www/html/geeklog/pulic_html is on your machine. And that's it.

bye, Dirk

Ok, I changed that, but now I get this error after the database was filled.
Template Error: set_root: /var/www/html/geeklog//geeklog/public_htmllayout/professional is not a directory.
Halted.

I missed that you also changed
Quote by me: $_CONF['path_html'] = $_CONF['path'] . '/geeklog/public_html';

Make that

$_CONF['path_html'] = $_CONF['path'] . 'public_html/';

... just like it was originally.

You changed way too many things in that file without, obviously, knowing what you're doing. The installation really is simple - you only have to change $_CONF['path'], $_CONF['site_url'] (plus, on some setups, $_CONF['path_html']) and the require_once line in lib-common.php.

that worked a little better, but when it says click here to go to your site's front page and learn about the default login. I get a blank page?

ofcourse, I have read it twice, I have everything just as described, I want to thank you for trying to help but I am soon ready to give up on this, nothing seem to work, and I have no idea what it is??? the checkscript is wrong btw, it searches for folders that dont exist or are in another place, ex; /userfotos/ folder is in wrong dir, atleast acording to the php check script, had to move it into /public _html/ and chod it to 777 since 755 don't work as described, atleast not on my server, the dir /articles/ and /topics/ does not exist in /public_html/ the php check script searches for them in there, maybe they are created automaticly later on, but I had to create them to in order to get a successful result on the php check and chod them to 777, I also had to chod /data/ and /backup/ dir in geeklog to 777, I really wish there was some sort of installation program, it's to much hassle for non php experts as my self, I also really wich it was configured to work with a standard folder structure inside the geeklog dir, with paths and stuff

Well, how was I supposed to derive that from your answer that you "checked your php.ini"? Please keep in mind that I can't see your configuration and that I don't know how much you know about PHP and webservers ...

Quote by me: the checkscript is wrong btw, it searches for folders that dont exist or are in another place, ex; /userfotos/ folder is in wrong dir

Which indicates that something in your config.php is wrong ...

Quote by me: I also had to chod /data/ and /backup/ dir in geeklog to 777

As mentioned in the installation instructions, that's an issue with your webserver's configuration then. Or maybe the files simply have the wrong owner (they should be owned by the process that's running the webserver).

Quote by me: I really wish there was some sort of installation program, it's to much hassle for non php experts as my self, I also really wich it was configured to work with a standard folder structure inside the geeklog dir, with paths and stuff

It does work just fine with a "standard folder structure", whatever that is ...

You may want to try the Alternative installation instructions and/or read the bit about public_html again.

And let me tell you that it's much easier to set up Geeklog than you seem to think it is. There are - depending on how you want to set things up - one or two paths to set in config.php, another in lib-common.php, and the URL to your site, again in config.php. That's all. If you end up making more changes (apart from the database information), you're probably doing something wrong.

bye, Dirk
