What does the archive option do?

Hi everyone. I am using Geeklog as a blog system over the summer which I spend abroad. It currently contains the entries from my last year, which I want to archive. I was originally just moving all stories into a new 'Archive' category and setting them to display in topic only. However, I then noticed the Archive function. So I set one story to archive at a date in the past. But this didn't seem to do anything.

My question is: what does the archive function for stories actually do? The Wiki doesn't seem to have much on the topic.

Pardon the silly question Smile

The archive option moves the story to the archive topic at the given date and time - provided that you made one of your topics the archive topic (there's an option for that in the Topic editor).

Stories in the archive topic use their own template files (archivestory*.thtml), so you can give them a different look once they're archived.

What would happen at the given time and date if I didn't define an archive topic?

Nothing would happen - the story would remain unchanged.

What if the deadline passes and only later do I set an archive topic? Do those stories move to the archive topic the second I set it?

Yes, when you call up the site's index page.
