Please help. I need to attach pdf and doc files to a story and have no idea how to do it.

I don't *think* there's a way to do this - at least, not in the way you probably want to.

I normally upload the files I want to "attach" into a publicly accessible folder and then in the story, I provide a link to said file. The only other way that you might be able to do this (AFAIK), is possibly with the new geeklog support for autotags. I'm not sure if there are any file management plugins that would provide such autotags though... perhaps somebody else could say for sure?

I can think of at least 3 ways to do it (other than doing it manually like bcbrock suggested):

1. Geeklog's own FCKeditor (it's a new feature of Geeklog v1.4 although it's currently shipped with v2.1.1. I suggest updating it to v2.2.)/
   Use Geeklog's demo site to test it (the default configuration forces you to click on the editor's "Full Window" button and only then can you press on "Link" and upload/use any file. In my own configuration "Link" is availabe in the main window, but only for admins (the default also makes it so everybody can do it).
   Still, even if you agree that all of the users (or "just" all of the admins) could do it, I wouldn't suggest it because it puts all of your files in one folder for all of the users/admins to mess around with.
   
2. The Filemgmt plugin now has an autotag you can use to attach the files you uploaded via the plugin to stories.
   
3. The MediaGallery plugin is now a semi file management in its own. You could have always attached files you uploaded via the plugin to stories, but this means you can now use it to upload and attach any filetype and not just media files.
   

If you don't care about my warnings, then use FCKeditor as it's the easiest since it's already installed (you just need to make sure it's enabled in config.php).
If your choice is between the latter two, since it seems to me you don't need descriptions, version numbers and such, you may want to consider using MediaGallery for this.
