Which version of Geeklog am I using?

freakingout
Hi all,

I 've been trying to upgrade from what I thought was 1.3.7 (I have the tarball for 1.3.7 in my geeklog directory, I think to remind me that this is what I installed back in early December 2004). But, when I try to upgrade the standard way, I get all kinds of problems. I've managed to get the site back up, but the last post is back in april of last year (there have been hundreds since then), and all in all it is a big old mess. I suspect I the versions might not have been 1.3.7, but as yet I've not been able to find away of determining which version of geeklog it actually is.

The url of the geeklog forum is http://support.westciv.com. Any help from how to determine the version up to what the heck is going wrong would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

john

Hm, can`t tell you where the stories have gone but you may use theme professional for trouble shooting with the theme problems.

Can you access the MySQL and see if the stories are still there?

I suspect the backup database is intact - I did a backup just before trying to upgrade.

I think I'm choosing the wrong database version to upgrade from in step 2 of the upgrade script. But, that's why I need to know which version of geeklog I was using - I still have the whole install at my site. Is there any way of knowing the version based on the php code or mySQL dtabase?

Thanks

The 1.4.0 install script will try to detect the old version of your database - but that only works as far back as 1.3.8. If you call up the install script (in update mode) and it has pre-selected the version dropdown with a version between 1.3.11 and 1.3.8, then that is probably correct.

For older versions, you'll have to hunt through the sql/updates scripts and see what changed and what you have in your database.

bye, Dirk

Thanks Dirk,

I know that the versions was before 1.3.8, but after 1.3.11. I *think* it is 1.3.7, but I am not sure. When I upgrade form what I hope is a good backup of my database, I get no new articles, or users since April 2005 (but I made the backup a few days ago, just before trying to upgrade, and as far I I recall, never made a backup before that). So, I am hoping that the version of the DB I am trying to upgrade is actually a little older or younger than 1.3.7, and when I choose the right one, all will be fine. The kicker is that reinstalling the backed up database is a total PITA (its the way my account is set up), so if I knew what version created it, this would really really help.

So, does anyone out there kow how I can tell exactly which version of geeklog I was running based on either the php or the database itself?

Thanks so much

john

1.3.11. is AFTER 1.3.8 ( 11 is after 8 )

So if you are sure it is before 1.3.8 and you only installed a 1.3.7 then it is likely to be 1.3.7. The question is why didn`t it work or better: what precisely doesn`t work?

Is this the upgraded version? http://support.westciv.com/ It does run, doesnt`it?

So my question again: Can you access the MySQL of this current asumingly upgraded version and see if the not showing stories are still there?

Maybe something made them invisible like set them to a future date or whatever. Did you delete a topic, made a topic invisible for guests etc.?
