Let me first start this post by saying I love Geeklog and this site. With that said I was wondering how old plugins work with new versions of GL? If I search for a solution to a problem, find it, will that work with the new versions put out? Also, will old plugins work with new versions of GL? The chatterblock was built many GL versions ago, so will installing it with the newest version work?

Or is it safe to assume that as long as the plugin is the LATEST version of that plugin, it will be compatible with future releases? If not, perhaps and idea could be to make an archive section of irrelevant information, seperate from what's happening with GL and it's plugins today? My concern is a solution, plugin, idea, or Add-On made over a year ago might be incompatible with the latest version.

Either way, I love this program and will continue to use it, but I want to make sure I install the latest plugins that won't create a security issue a new security update just might be trying to fix.

Old plugins should continue to work just fine with newer Geeklog versions, as long as the don't require any changes to Geeklog's core files (i.e. restrict themselves to the plugin API).

Two things to look out for:

1) The comment API has changed with 1.4.0. Plugins allowing comments will have to be updated.

2) Many of the older plugins require register_globals to be "on".

bye, Dirk
