I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times. Each time, I checked to make sure the permissions are right.

What happens is when I go to 'FTP Media', it sits for a minute and then sends me to a blank screen at admin.php. This is the error in error.log:

Sun Jan 1 14:09:50 2006 - _BLOCK_TEMPLATE[_msg_block] =
Sun Jan 1 14:09:50 2006 - Block template for the footer of _msg_block is: blockfooter.thtml

I can't figure it out and searching brought up nothing. Any ideas?

dz,

Have you tried uploading images through the browser interface?

Also, is there anything in your web server's error log worth noting?

From the log you just posted, that really doesn't have anything to do with Media Gallery, is that all that is in there?

Let's start by trying to upload a single image through the web interface, that will help make sure everything is set up properly, then we can drill down on the next issue.

Thanks!
Mark

Sounds good.

Trying to upload 1 image via the web upload isn't working either.

Can you let me know what happened? Did you get an error, blank page??

Also, usually when something in Geeklog causes a blank white page, there will be an error in your web server's error log. Can you look in there and let me know what it states.

Thanks!
Mark

Can't find anything in my servers error_log that's related to this. As far as geeklog's error.log, I cleared it out completely. Then I went to upload 1 image into it, and this is everything inside of it:

Hmm, I've never seen messages like this, but that's OK, we'll figure it out. What version of Geeklog are you running?

I am running 1.3.11sr2. As far as MediaGallery, I am running .97. I've gotten this set up perfectly fine on another vhost (I have a dedicated server. It works fine for another account, just not this one).

I apologize, but I actually have to run out for dinner. I shall return in a couple of hours. Thanks for any help!

If you don't mind my nose, I would suggest that dz has $_COM_VERBOSE = true;... so just ignore all those block template messages and only look at those prefixed by "MG Upload."
I'm sure that's no help, but Just my two cents

I have returned and $_COM_VERBOSE is already set to true. That was one of the first things I looked for.

Perhaps I should just reinstall everything, and see if that works..

You mentioned it was working fine on another vhost, is that on the same server? At least we can rule out server configuration if that is the case.

Is there anything special for this vhost in the .htaccess or a local php.ini that would make it act differently?

Just so I've asked all the right questions, are you sharing the same code between vhosts? I don't even know if it is possible, never really tried it, but who knows....

Let's make sure I understand the exact problem:

1. Choose Add Media from dropdown menu
2. Enter a filename and press Save
3. Goes to a blank screen? or goes back to admin screen?

Thanks!
Mark

Nope, nothign special about this vhost. I'm not sharing the same code either. And the problem is correct how you outlined it, with me going to admin.php after the upload and only getting a blank screen.

Anyways, I decided to scrap it all and start with a fresh install (it's a new account, so there's no data on it yet). Perhaps there was something that I missed before? I'll let you know how this install goes.

Damn. Fresh, brand new install and same exact issue. What are the permissions supposed to be in the mediaobjects directory? Perhaps I'm getting those completely wrong?

Basically, the web server will need write access to everything under mediaobjects. But, if it is ending in a blank screen, there is a problem somewhere and it should be logged in something. I have always found an error in my web server's error log (except under Windows, it doesn't log squat!).

What Media Gallery is doing is grabbing the uploaded files from the $_FILES variable, checking mime types and then calling MG_getFile(), one of the first things it does is log calling MG_getFile() into the error.log So, if we don't see that in the error.log, it isn't making it that far, and there really isn't anything that should error out before that. Very confusing.

What OS? Do you know if you have the PHP Hardening Patch installed on php?

Thanks!
Mark

Linux, and I dont think there's a PHP Hardening Patch installed. Honestly, it's working perfectly fine on another setup. It's just this one setup..

I just noticed that sometimes when I upload a JPG (one by one), it works fine. But only on certain jpgs..

I'm going to run some tests and let you know if I find anything.

Ok I think I've nailed the issues. I was talking to the client and I asked them if they had done anything special to the images (I was thinking maybe the metadata was messed up). They said that all they did was take the images into Paintbrush and use the resize utility.

I took the original images and resized them in Adobe Photoshop. Now they upload perfectly fine. It seems that the issue was simply that the meta-data inside the jpg's was destroyed and perhaps your plugin (or it could even possibly be the gd library) wasn't handling them correctly.

I uploaded my set of images and now it works perfectly fine.

Wow, well I'm glad you found the problem. If I ask very nicely could I get you to email me one of the bad images? I would love to figure why it's just dying instead of reporting back an error. You you can and don't mind, send it to mevans0263@gmail.com

Thanks!

BTW, I just uploaded the same broken image I sent you using the news upload and it had no problem. This just leads me to believe further that it's the metadata in the file messing with the gd library.

Too strange. On my test system, using ImageMagick, I get an error on the conversion. With GD libs, it works fine. I'll do a bit more testing.

Thanks for your help and patience!
