Hi,

Anyone know where you can download the 'Download Plugin'? I definitely remember seeing it somewhere. I checked several Geeklog download sites but can't find it anywhere.

Regards,

Shane

1000ideen thansk alot. I didn't realise that was the filemgmt was.

Can this plugin handle .xls files? I tried uploading one and get the following error.

Text Formatted Code
Warning: move_uploaded_file(g:/wwwroot/geek138_7/public_html/filemgmt_data/files/gaugesanddials.xls): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shanegibney.com/admin/plugins/filemgmt/index.php on line 1238

Warning: move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/tmp/phpvV4qJg' to 'g:/wwwroot/geek138_7/public_html/filemgmt_data/files/gaugesanddials.xls' in /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shanegibney.com/admin/plugins/filemgmt/index.php on line 1238

Line 1238 and the lines after it read

Text Formatted Code

 case "modDownload":
            modDownload();
            break;

The last four lines of my error.log read

Text Formatted Code

Tue Dec 20 12:26:57 2005 - AddNewFileShot - Upload filename  is g:/wwwroot/geek138_7/public_html/filemgmt_data/files/gauges and dials.xls
Tue Dec 20 12:26:57 2005 - Filemgmt File add by admin error: New file could not be created: /tmp/phptwchdp to gauges and dials.xls
Tue Dec 20 12:29:16 2005 - AddNewFileShot - Upload filename  is g:/wwwroot/geek138_7/public_html/filemgmt_data/files/gaugesanddials.xls
Tue Dec 20 12:29:16 2005 - Filemgmt File add by admin error: New file could not be created: /tmp/phpvV4qJg to gaugesanddials.xls

Anyone any ideas?

Looks like it's a permissions error. Make sure the directory is writeable by the webserver user

First of all you may check if another type of files can be uploaded. Then it seems strange that the 2 paths look like absolut paths but are different. But I'm not an expert on this.

g:/wwwroot/geek138_7/public_html/filemgmt_data/files/gaugesanddials.xls

hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shanegibney.com/admin/plugins/filemgmt/index.php

when setting up the file management plugin I know you need to say what are the allowed file types.

Maybe you have not set it up for that file type??

I am not at home right now and so cannot look to see what file needs to edited, but I think thats probably the issue.

Shane I looked at your site it is nicley done.

Just a caveat you might want to remove the GL version your running from the footer as only the actual geeklog.net site should have what version they are running just in case.

Just my two cents

ScurvyDawg very good advise regarding the GL version and thanks.
Interestingly that's a default of the ClearBlue theme. It probably should be changed.
There's nothing in the File Management Administration section to tell which type of files to accept.
Perhaps I try installing this plugin again.

Thanks for all you helps to far,

Shane

Hey Shane,

take a look at this article on portalparts

www.portalparts.com

He discusses the config file and where to customize the type of files allowed.

I checked out that article and my config.php But that seems to just convert files to different extensions. Anyway I don't thiink that's the problem.

I'm wondering is my filestore in the correct place. Here's my current error
Text Formatted Code
Error Code: 1102

ERROR: Upload submit Error: The temporary filestore file was not created. Check error.log

Last two lines of error.log read
Text Formatted Code

Thu Dec 22 11:17:03 2005 - Filemgmt File add by admin error: New file could not be created: /tmp/phpSyve5G to exam1excel.pdf
Thu Dec 22 11:33:52 2005 - Filemgmt submit error: Temporary file could not be created: /tmp/phpjVnPbm to g:/wwwroot/geek138_7/public_html/filemgmt_data/files/tmp/9uGcYi5JU9.pdf

My files on the server are set up slightly different to the normal way.
My geeklog directory and my public or shanegibney.com directory are beside each other. I think normally the public directory should be inside the geeklog directory. Does anyone think this would have an effect on things?

In step 3.1 of the installation documentation it says to put the storefiles "Under your webserver document root directory ". I presumed that meant to place them just inside my public directory.

I'm pretty sure I know where I'm going wrong. I completely missed out setting up the paths in the configuration.

Currently my paths are set to
Text Formatted Code

Directory to store files:   /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/
Directory to store file thumbnails:   /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/snaps/
Directory to store category thumbnails:   /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/category_snaps/
URL to files:   http://www.shanegibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/
URL to file thumbnails:   http://www.shanegibney.com/filemgmt_data/snaps/
URL to category thumbnails:   http://www.shanegibney.com/filemgmt_data/category_snaps/

But there's definitely mistakes in that I'm still getting the following error

Text Formatted Code

Error Code: 1105

ERROR: The download info was not complete - Need to enter a description for the new file

The directory that you are using looks correct but it definitely appears to be permissions. Make sure the tmp folder as well as the top folder under public that you are using for the repository have write permissions set. I've written about permissions about 100 times Banging your head

Depending on the username the webserver runs as or if this is a Windows vs Linux server the perms can be different and maybe you won't need full write and access permissions but for testing make sure they are initially 777.

I don`t know where this /tmp/ folder is nor if it is a server or webspace, but usually the webmaster doesn`t allow you to write everywhere. Check with your support if a sort of safe_mode is on! You are very likely to be confined on certain folders by the root admin.

I think that PHP is being successfull in uploading the file to the /tmp folder. The error is complaining of not being able to move the file from /tmp to g:/wwwroot/geek138_7/public_html/filemgmt_data/files/tmp/9uGcYi5JU9.pdf

The following directory is empty
shanegibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/tmp
so I know files aren't getting to there as they should be.

Where is g:/wwwroot/geek138_7/.....

I don't understand this path at all. g: would mean a specific drive on a computer, wouldn't it? and where's wwwroot and geek138_7
No part of that path make any sense to me.

I have to ask Leaves me speechless , is the /tmp/ directory is on the server or your pc???

Btw I use a server from a hosting company.

Thanks everyone so far for all your help.

You mean you have not updated the config to point to your installation directories? Then of course it's not working!! It's hardly able to copy the file from /tmp on your hosted webserver to a drive and folder that do not exist.

Please review the install document that is provided and follow the steps to ensure your setup is complete.

Hi Blaine,

Of course I've updated my config. Here are the paths I've set in the configuration. But I'm not sure if they are correct and I think there's where the problem might lie.

Text Formatted Code

Directory to store files:   /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/
Directory to store file thumbnails:  /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/snaps/
Directory to store category thumbnails: /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/category_snaps/
URL to files:  http://www.shanegibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/
URL to file thumbnails:   http://www.shanegibney.com/filemgmt_data/snaps/
URL to category thumbnails:   http://www.shanegibney.com/filemgmt_data/category_snaps/

All the permissions are set to 777.

I think it's strange that I get two different errors depending on how I try to upload the file. When I go to 'Upload a File' in the user functions I get the error
Text Formatted Code

Warning: move_uploaded_file(/hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/tmp/BGbfuHWgOW.txt): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shanegibney.com/filemgmt/submit.php on line 118

Warning: move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/tmp/phpAfM1vj' to '/hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/tmp/BGbfuHWgOW.txt' in /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shanegibney.com/filemgmt/submit.php on line 118

and
Text Formatted Code

Error Code: 1102

ERROR: Upload submit Error: The temporary filestore file was not created. Check error.log

and the last few lines of error.log read
Text Formatted Code

Thu Dec 22 18:29:19 2005 - AddNewFileShot - Upload filename  is /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/exam1excel.pdf
Thu Dec 22 18:29:19 2005 - Filemgmt File add by admin error: New file could not be created: /tmp/phpriYlPP to exam1excel.pdf
Thu Dec 22 18:29:39 2005 - Filemgmt submit error: Temporary file could not be created: /tmp/phpWmtqbr to /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/tmp/UlUpb61XIq.pdf
Fri Dec 23 11:46:49 2005 - Filemgmt submit error: Temporary file could not be created: /tmp/phpAfM1vj to /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/tmp/BGbfuHWgOW.txt
Fri Dec 23 11:48:47 2005 - Filemgmt submit error: Temporary file could not be created: /tmp/php6fmXY1 to /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/tmp/Cm66PoqepM.pdf

Now if I go to Filemgmt Admin in the admin block, and then 'Add a New File' I get the following errors
Text Formatted Code

Warning: move_uploaded_file(/hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/exam1excel.pdf): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shanegibney.com/admin/plugins/filemgmt/index.php on line 1238

Warning: move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/tmp/phpoADLFc' to '/hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/exam1excel.pdf' in /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shanegibney.com/admin/plugins/filemgmt/index.php on line 1238

and
Text Formatted Code

Error Code: 1106

ERROR: Upload Add Error: The new file was not created. Check error.log

and the two new lines at the bottom of error.log read

Text Formatted Code

Fri Dec 23 11:53:13 2005 - AddNewFileShot - Upload filename  is /hsphere/local/home/shanegib/shangibney.com/filemgmt_data/files/exam1excel.pdf
Fri Dec 23 11:53:13 2005 - Filemgmt File add by admin error: New file could not be created: /tmp/phpoADLFc to exam1excel.pdf

So how come I get two different errors?

I've installed many plugins before, but I've never had this much trouble. Is this regarded as a difficult plugin? I've careful read and followed the installation documentation. I'm obviously just missing something somewhere. I'll keep at it. Crying or Very sad

Thanks for your help,

Shane

The error message look the same to me - at a quick glance.
Admin is able to upload the file directly while other users upload their files to the tmp folder under the file_repository until it is approved by admin.

PHP only needs to do a move in both cases as the file is initially uploaded the /tmp.

It's still Perms in my mind - what are you using to check that perms setting. Do you trust what you see?
Some FTP client apps can fool you.

Blaine,

I'm quite certain the problem is ownership not permissions. On my webspace I can't change the ownership of user and group. They are not set at www:www as they should be but shanegib:shanegib
So after christmas I'll ask my hosting company and see if they can change ownership for me.

Have a great christmas and thanks for all your help.
