I've posted two very simple questions that any of you hard-core geeks could easily answer but nobody bothers. I could get more support out of a bum. Sheesh.

Now I see why everyone told me to go with Nuke.

I also feel that anonymous postings are more a problem than an advantage. Not because of spam but because of the missing possibility of a notification.

If nobody asks a question how do you want to notify nobody? Mr. Green It really sucks! Laughing

I posted as anonymous because I didn't really plan on coming back here. One of my questions was how do you get the ranking system to work for the forum plugin? I'm using GL version 1.3.11sr1 and forum version 2.3.

I notice that it doesn't appear to be working even in this forum. Is that feature disabled or broken?

The other question was this:
You know the feature, like on the homepage of this site, that displays in the center of the page showing the lastest forum posts?

Mine was working great and then poof!.... It just stopped showing those latest posts to non-registered users.

Any idea why?

Forum plugin version= 2.3 / N/A 1.3.8
GL version= 1.3.11sr1

If you can help great! I'd really appreciate it.

I remember that question - I didn't understand it the first time around either ...

What are you referring to? The "ranking" in the forum is really only displaying a certain amount of stars under a user's name, based on how many posts that user made. And it appears to be working just fine on here ...

Btw, if you're really on Forum 2.3, you may want to upgrade to 2.3.2.

bye, Dirk

The ranking system is set in forum admin settings page. The file that has the ranking code is gf_showtopic.php.

The centerblock is also under forum admin settings and the code for this is in index.php

Did you mess with forum/themefiles/layout/centerblock_main.thtml?

Try recopying this file to the server.

Welcome back viasoul!
Hm, does the ranking system really only display a different number of stars? Why is there a title like "Newbie" or "Active Member"? It`s true, I never got this working either but didn't pay attention to it.

If you look at blaine's 2.5 forum http://www.portalparts.com/ you will see those titles working.

I tried GL 1.4.1b1 and forum 2.5 and I don't get it. Seems I'm missing something too but where?

And if even Dirk didn't notice this up to now, well it must be deeply hidden... Cool

First I can recall hearing about an issue with the user ranking Shocked

Version 2.3.2 and 2.5 both Question
What is show in the user (non-anonymous) area for the poster. Do you get the member's image, registered date, posts info but no ranking or admin indicator ?

I've never seen on any site I've installed or been active on.

Are you sure it's not theme related.

Hi Blaine, what seems to be missing is what you can see here:

This title "Full Poster" or "Newbie" or "Active Member" is missing on my installations 2.5 and also 2.3.2 and also not visible here on geeklog.net nor geeklog.info professional theme normal installation.

I wonder if I turned it off somewhere without knowing.

~~~
Got to add:
Plugin 2.5 under GL 1.3.11sr2 does show the titles!
Plugin 2.5 under GL 1.4.1b1 shows the title "Admin"!
Do you get the images and just not the rank description?
Is this the stock theme files?
Yes, just the rank is missing while "Admin" which is not a rank is visible.
>>Is this the stock theme files?<<
Can't tell you because I have various problems at present. I would have to copy over the files new. But it should be the original.
Have a look at the topic.thtml file - you will find the html is in there but just comented out. The User Rank is shown by default when you hover over the ranking image but if you want to see it all the time, just need to enable it in the template.
Blaine was faster than me. :-)
It seems to be theme issue. Well, it's not really an issue, but when you keep you mouspointer above the image with the stars (title atribute), you get the ranking, you also get the ranking if you can see the alternate image text.
You could make it appear if you edit the theme files.
Hm, scratch, scratch. I tried 2 themes with Plugin 2.5 under GL 1.3.11sr2. In the one case it shows these user ranks in the other case it doesn't. The point is that this is the webspace with which I am just moving to another server and back...
The difference seems to be the CSS. I remember I had terrible problems getting the CSS right because of this: "Add if not already included". So I compared line by line and confused it a couple of times. This seems to be the point. I'll look into it within the next days.
Thanks for your help!
Right, I got some of the riddle solved.
Blaines November 05 files bear various dates e.g. the date of Jan 04! If you have the FTP settings to only "overwrite if newer" which is quite common, then you're in trouble. So now that I repeated it with "overwrite all" I got GL version 1.3.11sr2 and forum version 2.5 working almost perfectly yes, WITH those ranks (no editing of the files necessary).
If I may make a suggestion to you Blaine. Your forum is so good that I chose it instead of phpbbb (which is also great). The only thing that is really, really, really problematic is the instruction or rather the way you compress the files.
Usually users have a webspace and can't untar anything on a server nor move it around. So if your describtion and packing of the files considered this there would be less possibilities of errors. E.g.
/root/public_html/admin/plugins/forum/
So one more question. Where does the subdir /userupdate/ have to go? It has strange subdirs lice public_html and layout. This one was new in the Nov 05 pack.
~~~
Got to correct my statement:
I can only see the rank of some admins. A root admin is ranked Admin, a forum admin is ranked Junior etc. Other posters and even one admin has no ranking and no graphics. I don't understand it and I'd rather like to go on testing after GL 1.4.1 is on its way.

Ok no this forum doesn't suck. I retract my earlier comment. Thank you very much for helping me out guys, I seriously appreciate it.

Thanks vadertech I'll try that.

I went into:
layout/professional/forum/layout/

I didn't find a "centerblock_main.thtml" file.

I did see these:
centerblock_displayline.thtml
centerblock_header.thtml
centerblock_footer.thtml

I re-uploaded them anyway but it didn't change anything.

Suggestions?
