Has anyone else noticed a large proportion of their traffic seems to be coming from SPAM websites? It looks like 10%-30% of my traffic is coming from either Viagra or gambling websites. When I go to one of these websites to find the link that supposedly sends visitors to my website, I can't find one.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? I'm concerned that somehow my users have received a virus that creates a popup for a SPAM site whenever they try to visit my site.

Any input to this question would be greatly appreciated.

Not porn or spam sites but similar with myspace and xanga I check the referers and like cannot find a link.

Are you able to see the URL of the referer and see what they are trying to open on your site.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the web of today. This is known as referrer spam [Wikipedia link]. The referrers are, of course, faked, and only exist to a) attract visitors to these sites (worked just fine in your case) and b) to increase the Google ranking of those sites (if you display your referrer stats publically).

If you display your stats, take them down or at least hide them from anonymous users. There isn't much you can do against referrer spam, so it's best to just ignore it. Unless it's causing you load or traffic problems, in which case some of these tips will help.
