Hi,

I am planning to migrate my web site from Mambo to GeekLog and using the theme professional. I added a new row in table gl_blocks in my geeklog test database, to define a new block. How can I get it activated (displayed at the front page) and preferebly get it listed in left column right after the first block,

Many Thanks,
Turker

Hi, this can easily been done under the admin - blocks section. No need to mess with the database directly.

Yep, I realized that.. However, my question is how to get this new block listed. I defined it as gldefault and I expected it to be shown in the left column (left enabled), but it is not.

Should I write a php code for the new block or will GL handle it for me in someway.

If I get it listed I can add new topics too.

what kind of block are you wanting to add?

OK. We are a group of people and each one will contribute to their own selected topics.

So, kind of group of writers and each one has their own list of articles.

Block (say named Authors) will show the list of people (authors) which are then links to their own articles.

Thanks,

Ok, all you should have to do is create the html for the block, plug it into the "Normal Block Options" section, feed the cat and call it a night. Don't mess with the database.

Vadertech is right on the money, don't mess with the db when the UI already handles this.

Keep in mind that no matter what you do to the db, if you have not created any content then no block will be displayed whether that content is html stored in the db or a named php function drawing content from wherever.

I'm sure we're all biased here, but I have a hard time figuring out why GL doesn't have the user base like the Nukes and Mambo/Limbo/Joomla/whatever... I'm constantly installing and uninstalling all the other packages when they provide a new release... but I'm just never that impressed.

GL is such a great package I just don't understand why everyone else doesn't see it...
